En résumé, cette étude présente les résultats des recherchesmenées pour les patients et leurs familles sein du Patient Education ResourceCenter de l’University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. L’étude examinele taux de satisfaction et l’impact de l’information fournie aux demandeurs.Les résultats tendraient à montrer, malgré la tendance à rechercher directementsoi-même l’information sur Internet, que les patients et leurs familles ne sontpas en mesure de trouver toutes les informations dont ils pourraient avoirréellement besoin. Les recherches expertes continueront d’avoir une placeimportante pour les bibliothécaires devant travailler avec des personnes quirecherchent de l’information de type "consumer health".L’article se termine par la conclusion suivante :"This study confirms the initial assumption that professional level searchesare a valuable service that makes a positive impact on the lives of cancerpatients and families. The fact that professional searches provided 96.2% ofusers with information they were not able to find on their own underscores theimportant role of expert searching in the realm of consumer health. It seemsthat, despite the penetration of the Internet in society, other barriers mayprevent patients and families from accessing relevant information when theyneed it. …
