What makes a web site 2.0?

Yesterday I attended a web site management webinar hosted by SLA at the Minnesota Department of Education. The presenter was David Lee King (www.davidleeking.com), Digital Branch & Services Manager, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.Topics and discussion included what makes a web site 2.0, how to include social components (blogs, wikis, twitter, podcasting, rss feeds, flickr) into your libraries web presence, and the value to your customers by integrating dynamic content. The examples of what some other libraries are doing, were very interesting and creative. One library has a book review videocast series on YouTube called “What would Barbie Read”, hosted by Barbie.Examples of online tools and software that’s available (especially for free) was shown, and how easy they are to use. I especially enjoyed the discussion of how a nextgen library needs to adapt in the technology age. Not only being community leaders in promoting literacy, but information literacy as well.
